IMSA: Risi Ferrari, TRG-AMR lead FP1 at VIR

IMSA's Oak Tree Grand Prix at Virginia International Raceway for the GT Le Mans and GT Daytona classes got under way Friday morning with a one-hour session that was led by Ferrari and Aston Martin, respectively.

Risi Competizione's Pierre Kaffer was fastest overall and fastest in GTLM with his No. 62 Ferrari F458 (1:43.937), which was a scant 0.039 seconds ahead of Antonio Garcia in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R (1:43.976) and Earl Bamber in No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR (1:44.184).

Kuno Wittmer topped GTD in his No. 007 TRG-AMR Aston Martin V12 Vantage (1:48.779), which was nearly matched by Turner Motorsport's Markus Palttala in the No. 97 BMW Z4 (1:48.790). Third in GTD went to Andy Lally in the No. 44 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT America (1:48.857).

18 cars took part in FP1. The second and final TUDOR United SportsCar Championship practice of the day begins at 4 p.m. ET.
