Bell, Clay Lead Final Continental Tire Challenge Practice


Matt Bell served notice that he will be taking a stab at making Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge history Friday at VIRginia International Raceway, leading the final practice session with a lap of 1:59.045.

Bell will be driving the No. 9 Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R when TOTAL Pole Award qualifying begins at 5:55 p.m. ET. He has the opportunity to tie Devon Powell for the series’ all-time lead if he can win his fourth pole of the season – which would be the 13th of his career.Ashley Freiberg was second in the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports IHG Rewards Club/Trim-Tex BMW M3, with a lap of 1:59.309. She was followed by Nicolas Hammann in the No. 41 Nismo GT Academy Nissan 370Z, 1:59.325. In Street Tuner (ST), Virginia native James Clay was fastest in the No. 84 BimmerWorld Racing OPTIMA Batteries BMW 328i, unofficially breaking the track record with a lap of 2:04.962.Spencer Pumpelly, a two-time ST winner this season, was second with a lap of 2:05.403 in the No. 17 RS1 Porsche Cayman, followed by teammate Dylan Murcott, 2:05.588 in the No. 18 RS1 Porsche Cayman.
