Check out these graphic prints of some of the coolest race cars ever
Graphic artist Arthur Schening of Arlington, VA has produced a series of prints that capture some of the coolest race cars ever in a fresh, modern style. Like many of us, Schening’s love affair with sports cars was sparked at a young age when a certain film made a big impression on him.
"When I was very young my older brother took me to see Steve McQueen’s movie Le Mans. At that time, the only racing cars I was aware of were American stock cars. These cars were different. They were very cool, and exotic, and the sound they made was fantastic. When I first saw the movie I was astonished by the power – the Porsches battling against the Ferraris to ultimate victory. I have been a Porsche man ever since, and a great enthusiast of sports cars,” recalls Schening.
“Being a free-lance graphic designer and illustrator is not lucrative. I was born to a middle-class family. I am not wealthy, and I will never be able to afford the cars that I desire. But my occupation does give me the ability to create a likeness of the things that I love. If I wanted a Porsche 906 or Jaguar C-Type, I would have to create them for myself,” he continues.
“I started working on this series of historic racing car illustrations a few years ago – in my free time when I was not working on client projects, which is a benefit of working for myself. I never intended to illustrate more than a few cars that I wanted to hang on my walls at home. But, with each illustration I complete, the list of cars that I covet grows. I suppose this project will continue on for a while longer.”
We certainly hope so. Schening’s prints are available through his website, scheningcreative.com. The Standard Prints, $30.00, are 19" wide x 13" tall. They are printed using an Epson Artisan 1430, 6-color printer, on 65 lb. uncoated cover stock. The Limited Edition Prints, $95.00, are 24" x 16.5" Giclée prints. Each print is signed and numbered, with a maximum of 100 produced. They are printed on Somerset Velvet Watercolor paper (100% cotton, acid-free, 19 mil thickness).
