Performance Tech Earns Three Podium Finishes At Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 9, 2015) – Performance Tech Motorsports finished the Road America weekend with three podium finishes in Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda.

Race Two ended under caution after an incident occurred mid pack ending the fight to the front for Robert Alon, Austin Versteeg and Joel Janco.

Luckily, Janco in his No. 25 passed through the on track onslaught of spinning cars to turn his 15th place start into a sixth place finish overall. He finished the race second in L1 Masters, making back to back podium finishes after a second place finish in yesterday’s Race One. This is his seventh win of the season.

“We worked hard for this one starting 15th and winding up second in Masters. It was a fabulous day, we had a great car and we were able to pass a lot of other cars. It was just a really fun day and thanks to Performance Tech and Jonatan Jorge for making it all work for me.”

Versteeg and Alon were once again running side by side through corners.

Alon pushed to the front of the field early on the race. He took advantages  of each of the three cautions by attacking the No. 60 of race leader Kenton Koch on restarts. Alon and Versteeg attempted to push each other to the front, but the final caution ended the race early and Alon settled for second after starting fourth.

“Our car was night and day from yesterday. We had a great car today. We definitely had the pace on Kenton for the first half of the race. Had some looks but he kept pushing me to the outside and I couldn’t make it stick. After all the aero-push the front tires went off and we just didn’t have the pace to make it work at the end. And a lot of yellows got in the way as well. But Performance Tech gave me a great car and we had a good day.”

Versteeg made an inspired drive after the team spent multiple hours fixing the understeer problem that held him back in Race One. He started the race eighth and finished third after steadily climbing the field. Versteeg also took advantage of the restarts, pushing his way through traffic after every yellow.

“The yellows were pretty stacked, after the first one they all fell shortly after. There was really good pushing at the start coming from eighth, getting through everything on track and getting the passes done fast. The car was a lot better today after we made a bunch of changes to the setup. The problem was still there but it was really minimized. I feel confident moving forward because we know what to do moving forward. Just thanks to Performance Tech and all the guys.”

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda field will next compete in Danville, Virginia, at VIRginia International Raceway during the Biscuitville 125 weekend August 28-29. There are four remaining rounds in 2015 season, with the grand finale taking place at Road Atlanta during the Petit Le Man weekend October 1-3.
