Daly Leads Wet Opening Practice At Road America


Conor Daly ran the fastest lap in opening TUDOR United SportsCar Championship practice Friday afternoon at Road America. With steady rain falling throughout the one-hour session, Daly led both overall and the Prototype Challenge (PC) class with a lap of 2:27.182 in the No. 38 Ric-Man Construction/GO-PUCK/Braille Batteries ORECA FLM09. Co-driver James French won the TOTAL Pole Award in two of the three most recent PC qualifying sessions.

Colin Braun was second overall, running 2:30.339 in the No. 54 CORE autosport Flex-Box/Composite Resources ORECA FLM09, while Chris Miller was third in PC and fourth overall with a lap of 2:31.362 in the No. 85 JDC/Miller Motorsports UndergroundCellar.com entry.Porsches took the top three places in GT Le Mans (GTLM). Wolf Henzler was third overall and first in class with a lap of 2:30.669 in the No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR. Second in GTLM and sixth overall was Joerg Bergmeister, 2:31.663 in the No. 912 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR, followed by teammate Patrick Pilet in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR, 2:31.758.The fastest Prototype (P) was Ozz Negri, placing fifth overall with a lap of 2:31.611 in the No. 60 U.S. Auto Force Ligier JS P2/Honda. Points leader Richard Westbrook was seventh overall and second in class, 2:31.757, followed by Joey Hand, ninth overall at 2:34.268 in the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost/Riley.GT Daytona (GTD) points leader Christopher Haase led the class with a lap of 2:39.270, followed by Michael Marsal in the No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal/IHG Rewards Club BMW Z4, 2:39.712, and Andy Lally, 2:40.585 in the No. 44 Flex-Box/The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank.Ten teams elected not to participate in the session, which was red-flagged five minutes early due to a spin by Daniel Burkett in Turn 11 in the No. 16 Top 1 Oil/Jet Suites/Edvisors ORECA FLM09. There will be a second one-hour TUDOR Championship practice Friday afternoon, beginning at 5:15 p.m. ET.
