Kyle Gimple Racing Road America Pre-Race Report

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (4 August 2015) – Racing in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series, Kyle Gimple has the opportunity to compete at legendary circuits all across the country. And this weekend will be no different as Gimple travels to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for Round 7 of the championship at historic Road America.

From sports cars to NASCAR to IndyCar, Road America has played host to top-level racing categories through the years. The 4-mile road course and its 14 famous corners including the fabled Hurry Downs, Kettle Bottoms, and Canada Corner, has challenged some of the world’s most revered drivers. This weekend, the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge will be in action at the track as part of the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase event and with over 40 cars entered for Saturday’s 2.5-hour race, the event is sure to thrill both fans and drivers alike.Gimple has raced at Road America in IMSA competition since 2011 in a variety of very different racing machines including a Mustang, Mini Cooper, and Honda Civic. This weekend’s event marks Gimple’s first time at the track with the No. 75 AERO Advanced Paint Technology/Children’s Tumor Foundation Audi S3.Gimple and his co-driver Paul Holton debuted the Audi earlier this year at Sebring International Raceway. The Compass360 Racing team has continued to improve the new car through the season with the group showing notable progress in the previous round of IMSA competition at Lime Rock Park two weeks ago.“The Compass360 guys have been working continuously on this car,” said Gimple. “Hopefully we can pick up right where we left off at Lime Rock with the progression we’ve made. We’re taking steps forward and hopefully we can keep making more progress at Road America. The track has some great corners and opportunities for passing. It’s a fun track to drive so I’m looking forward to running it in the Audi.”Gimple will look for a little Road America redemption after being taken out early in last year’s race in which he qualified on the second row of the ST-class grid. Gimple was an innocent victim of a multi-car crash on the very first lap and despite expertly keeping the car off of the outside wall, the car-to-car contact was enough to force the car to pit lane for lengthy repairs which saw the team fall several laps down. The Road America event will begin with a promoter test day on Thursday. Friday will feature official practice and qualifying which will set the stage for the 2.5-hour race on Saturday which goes green at 12:20 PM Central Time (1:20 PM ET).IMSA.com will provide live streaming coverage of both qualifying and the race. Fans can follow either at scoring.imsa.com or on the IMSA app for coverage throughout the weekend.
