Kelly Moss Heading Home With Large Lineup At Road America
MADISON, Wis. (Aug. 5, 2015) – Kelly Moss Motorsports has made itself at home at Road America. After a weekend of successful competition in another series, the team is staying put for Rounds 9 and 10 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama on Aug. 7-9.
The circuit – just 108 miles from Kelly Moss headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin – is like another home for the team, which can count many successful weekends at the track.
This is always one of the biggest events of the year for Kelly Moss, not only because of the close proximity but because it is a driver favorite. So it’s little wonder the team is supporting an eight-driver lineup this weekend.
“With a home race, we work just as hard, if not harder,” Kelly Moss Vice President Jeff Stone said. “A home track can be both a blessing and a curse. You want to defend your home circuit, but sadly if trouble is going to strike anywhere, it has a history of being here. We are hoping to get that monkey off our backs this weekend.”
Kelly Moss young gun Jesse Lazare will look to rebound at Road America after a tough weekend of racing July 10-12 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
If last year is any indication, Lazare could close his small points gap in the Platinum Cup Drivers Championship. He is seven points out of first after seven of 16 rounds. Lazare, 18, earned two podium finishes in three races last season at the 14-turn, 4.048-mile circuit at Road America.
Lazare will be joined in Platinum Cup competition by teammates Jay Patel, William Peluchiwski, Dan Weyland, Frank Selldorff and Kurt Fazekas. Those five will participate in Platinum and Platinum Masters divisions.
Patel, in his first season with Kelly Moss, has amassed an impressive record with a consistency that has placed him second in the Platinum Masters point standings. He is locked in a tight battle with Peluchiwski, who is third in Platinum Masters, three points behind Patel.
Weyland will make his third start of the season after a successful season opener in June at Watkins Glen International, while Fazekas will make his Kelly Moss debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama.
Fazekas, Patel and Lazare all participated in races last weekend at Road America.
The father-and-son duo of Wayne and David Ducote will compete in the Gold Cup and Gold Masters classes. David swept the Gold and Gold Masters classes last season in his Gold debut at Road America, picking up four podium finishes.
David Ducote is third in Gold points and fifth in Gold Masters this season.
Wayne Ducote had three top-10 finishes last year at Road America. This season he has produced strong, consistent finishes, placing him fifth in Gold and fourth in Gold Masters.
“We’re looking to get a couple of wins, and we feel like we’re set up to do just that,” Stone said. “Last weekend we had some equipment and cars damaged after some pretty rough weather on Sunday, so our team has been working nonstop to get ready. I have to thank my entire team, and especially my wife, for putting 100 percent into getting everything ready for the weekend. It’s been a lot of work, but we’ll be ready to go.”
The first of two 45-minutes races is scheduled to begin at 5:25 p.m. (CT) Saturday, Aug. 8, followed by Race 2 at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Qualifying will take place at 8:35 a.m. Saturday morning.
