Full House For Performance Tech At Road America
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2015) – Performance Tech Motorsports will have a full house at the track once again.
The team is bringing its lineup of three Prototype Lites cars to Road America for Rounds 9 and 10 of the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda series. Performance Tech also will race its Prototype Challenge car in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race.
Joel Janco, Robert Alon and Austin Versteeg will drive for Performance Tech in Prototype Lites on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile course Aug. 7-9 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Last year Janco managed a third-place finish on the Lites 1 Masters podium while Alon fell short of the podium with a sixth-place finish in Lites 1. The team also captured its only pole of the season at Road America in 2014.
Rookie Versteeg will enter uncharted territory with his first visit to Road America. But Versteeg is excited to visit the iconic track, dreaming about competing at Road America since he started racing.
Performance Tech PC drivers James French and Conor Daly will be on hand to help Janco, Alon and Versteeg get up to speed. French, from the neighboring town of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, grew up racing at Road America and will provide seasoned advice. Jonatan Jorge of JJ Racing Development also will review data and coach.
Team Principal Brent O’Neill knows previous experience pays off at Road America, but he isn’t worried about his rookie.
“Austin get’s up to speed pretty quickly,” O’Neill said. “That’s one of his best skills is that he can learn tracks quickly. I don’t think it’ll hurt him not having been to this track because this year he’s already proved that he can run well at places he has never been.
“Robert and Joel have been here before. They both ran well here last year, so hopefully we can build on that and do better. I know Joel is driven to get back on podium, and we’d love to see him there again. We’d love to see each of our guys on podium, and I think it’s definitely possible.”
Janco stands eighth in overall Lites 1 points and is third in the L1 Masters Championship. He sits three points behind second place in L1 Masters. Alon is third in the overall points championship, and Versteeg is sixth.
Race One takes place at 10:40 a.m. (CT) Saturday, Aug., 8 and Race Two will take place at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Fans can follow live timing on scoring.imsa.com and live text commentary on Twitter with @IMSALive. For a full schedule, visit imsa.com.
