
Poll results: What’s the best way for IndyCar to regain its lost stature?
Here are the results to our latest poll question: What’s the best way for the Verizon IndyCar Series to attract more audience while also restoring its stature and appeal to commercial partners?
ANSWERS:
1. Return to the formula that worked during the growth era of CART in the early 1990s: well-known American racers versus international stars in sleek, powerful cars that are the fastest circuit racers on Earth. 1,859 (48.6%)
2. Indy car racing needs a total reboot. Its leaders should give up their on their entertainment mindset along with the Dallara spec-cars and introduce new rules that encourage individuality, creativity and innovation. 950 (24.8%)
3. Stay the course. The rising ratings and increased buzz proves that IndyCar's leadership is getting it right and turning things around. 677 (17.7%)
4. Let's bring back the Championship Trail Concept that ended in 1970 with a mix of dirt ovals, paved speedways and road racing that will determine a true American National Champion. 259 (6.7%)
5. Return to the original premise of the Indy Racing League in the late 1990s: ovals-only, wheel-to-wheel entertainment-driven competition with lower-cost cars and a focus on attracting American drivers. 83 (2.2%)
This poll generated 3,828 responses. Even though the respondents don’t all agree on which course the series should take, 82.3% think IndyCar needs to become something different than it is today in order to grow and appeal to a larger audience.
