Burton Racing Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Pre-Race Report
Indianapolis, Ind. (7 July 2015) - Fresh from a top-10 run at Watkins Glen, Burton Racing is ready for another iconic track as the team returns to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend for Round 5 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship.
The race weekend, staged as part of the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship event, marks just the second visit to the Canadian track for Burton Racing as the series makes its single Canadian race outing of the season.
Drivers Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra will pilot the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda/Gold Eagle BMW 128i at the much beloved Canadian track. The circuit's 10 turns comprise the 2.459-mile track and its fast paced corners make it a challenging test for drivers and exciting for fans.
A test before Watkins Glen proved beneficial as both drivers sang the praises of the progress made with the No. 23 Burton Racing BMW. That progress showed during the Continental Tire 150 at Watkins Glen.
After taking 23rd on the mixed GS and ST class grid, the Burton Racing BMW machine enjoyed two fault free stints in the hands of LaMarra and Borcheller despite some constantly changing and always challenging rainy conditions. That effort notched an eighth-place finish for the team's second top-10 finish of the season.
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park marks the halfway point of the 2015 championship.
Burton Racing hopes that the successful test and subsequent top-10 finish in Watkins Glen provide the momentum needed for a string of good finishes in the second half of the season.
“Watkins Glen was a good way for us to kind of kick off these next few races that all come in a row,” said Team Manager Keith Burton. “We had some very tough conditions but the guys did a great job behind the wheel, stayed out of trouble and just kept pushing to the front. We want to be fighting for podiums and wins but given everything we had to deal with, coming out of there with a clean car and some solid points was good. Mosport is another big challenge for the guys but we are very confident with this BMW and will want to just keep pushing toward the front this weekend.”
The IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com.
