Ferrari North America Watkins Glen Post-Race Report
June 28, 2015 (Watkins Glen, N.Y.) – Sunday’s Six Hours of the Glen, one of North America’s most important endurance races, featured cold temperatures and intense rain which at one point put the endurance race under red flag conditions. Not only was the Six Hours of the Glen the mid-point of the 2015 United SportsCar Championship, but the round at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York marked the third event of the North American Endurance Cup.
Prevailing with a strong finish after a minor incident early in the race was the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia. Driven by Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler, the Ferrari finished fourth place in the GT-Daytona class after making up several positions during the final hour of the race. Sweedler and Bell currently occupy third place in the GT-Daytona championship and second place in the NAEC driver’s championship, while Ferrari leads the GT-D manufacturer’s championship in the NAEC.
Also bringing home strong points on the day was the GT-LeMans class no. 62 Ferrari 458 Italia of Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer. After facing a variety of challenges during the race, the Ferrari finished in fifth position in class which has moved Fisichella and Kaffer into a tie for third position in the GT-LeMans driver’s championship.
The next round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will be at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada on July 10-12.
