GP2: Pic penalized for clash with King
Arthur Pic has lost his sixth-place finish in the GP2 feature race at Silverstone as a punishment for clashing with Jordan King.
The Campos Racing driver hit the rear of King's Racing Engineering car at the final corner of the race, tipping it into a spin. While Pic survived the clash and crossed the line sixth, King could not get going again so did not complete the final lap.
As a result, stewards have hit Pic with a 20-second time penalty, issued in lieu of a drive-through penalty, relegating him to 14th place.
"I was struggling to get onto the power and he just knocked into the back of me and spun me around," King related. "I don't think he did it maliciously, he just misjudged it.
"I'm still starting [Sunday's sprint race] near the back, so the penalty has not made much difference to me."
As a result of Pic's penalty, Raffaele Marciello moves up to sixth and Nick Yelloly seventh. It would also have handed GP2 debutant Oliver Rowland eighth and reversed grid pole, had the MP Motorsport driver not earned his own penalty. This was a five-second time penalty for exceeding the track limits at Copse Corner.
Rio Haryanto takes eighth place as a result, ahead of Julian Leal and Rowland.
