IMSA: Fast time again for Shank's Ligier-Honda P2 in Watkins Glen FP2

Two hours of practice on Friday at Watkins Glen resulted in Michael Shank Racing's Ozz Negri pushing the No. 60 Ligier JS P2-Honda to the fastest lap in the first session with a 1:38.055 around the idyllic track, and the Brazilian followed it up with a 1:38.366 in warmer afternoon conditions to lead the second and final outing of the day.

Negri and teammate John Pew cleared the second-place No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP by 0.374 seconds while the sister No. 31 AXR Corvette DP set an almost identical time. AXR's Christian Fittipaldi (1:38.740) and teammate Dame Cameron (1:38.770) were shadowed by the third chassis and engine combo in the top-4 as Scott Pruett (1:38.785) gave the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford EcoBoost DP a competitive run.

"Today the car was hooked up from the get-go," said Negri. "This track really suits our car. I was driving it hard today – and that's the way the car likes it. John was awesome in this morning's practice. We know we have a good car for dry conditions. It if rains tomorrow or Sunday, we'll start all over."

GT Le Mans featured a new fastest car as John Edwards and Lucas Luhr (1:44.177) took over from Corvette Racing with their No. 24 BMW Team RLL Z4. Just 0.012 seconds behind, Corvette's No. 3 C7.R driven by Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen (1:44.189) came close to leading both of Friday's session, and had the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari of Pierre Kaffer and Giancarlo Fisichella (1:44.351) pursuing in third.

In PC, Starworks Motorsport's Renger van der Zande and Alex Popow combined to not only lead the class (1:41.471), but also to post the seventh-fastest lap of the session – ahead of two Prototypes. Performance Tech Racing's Conor Daly was second in PC (1:41.767), well clear of the JDC/Church PC in third (1:42.338). CORE autosport, fastest in FP1, was sixth in FP2 (1:43.050).

The hotly contested GT Daytona category was a bit rank-and-file as Porsche 911 GT America teams locked out the top-3, followed by a pair of Dodge Vipers. Alex Job Racing's No. 22 Porsche (1:48.984) led the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche (1:49.011) and the sister No. 22 AJR car in third (1:49.453). Kuno Wittmer, who topped FP1 in his TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage V12, was seventh (1:49.877).

Action resumes Saturday morning as IMSA's TUDOR United SportsCar Championship teams practice for a third time from 10:15-11:15 a.m. ET, then qualify for Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hour at the Glen between 3:40-5:10 p.m. ET.
