Davis, Pumpelly Fastest In Final Watkins Glen Practice
Defending Watkins Glen International winner Andrew Davis led Friday morning second Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge practice in the Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R, while Spencer Pumpelly unofficially broke the Street Tuner (ST) track record in the RS1 Porsche Cayman.
Qualifying begins at 1 p.m. with a 15-minute session for ST, followed by GS at 1:30 p.m. Saturday’s Continental Tire 150 takes the green flag at 12:25 p.m., and will be streamed live on IMSA.com.Davis and Robin Liddell will be seeking their third consecutive Grand Sport (GS) victory in the No. 6 Camaro. Davis ran a fast lap of 2:01.103, followed by last year’s WGI runner-up BJ Zacharias, who ran 2:01.358 in the No. 14 Nissan Nismo GT Academy Nissan 370Z.Hugh Plumb was third, running 2:01.734 in the No. 13 Billfish Foundation/Rum Bum Studios Porsche 911. Piscitell is expected to be seeking his fourth consecutive pole in today’s qualifying. Third was Jorge Leroux in the No. 4 Roux Helmets Honda Civic Si co-driven by his brother Juan Carlos. LRT Racing rebounded from a engine problem sustained late in the Thursday session.A pair of incidents brought out red flags. Remo Ruscitti had contact in Turn 7 in the No. 52 MINI John Cooper Works midway through the session, while Ethan Lowe went off course in Turn 10 in the closing minute in the No. 31 Visit St. Pete/Clearwater/Delaware Investments Porsche Cayman fielded by Bodymotion Racing.
