Wittmann: F1 test was worth the pain
Marco Wittmann said the neck pain was worth it as he completed his first drive in a Formula 1 car without problems at the post-Austrian Grand Prix test.
The German was given the drive as a reward for winning last year's DTM title with BMW and completed 158 laps, the most of any driver at the Red Bull Ring.
"I have to say my first test day in a Formula 1 car has been amazing," said Wittmann. "It was a great day without any problems and I managed to do a lot of laps, so I'm really happy.
"My neck feels a bit tired, it's a bit painful, but if you get a chance in a Formula 1 test you just go for it – you don't complain about any pain or issues or anything else."
Wittmann said the biggest challenge of driving a Formula 1 car was getting used to the increased power at his disposal.
"First I had to get used to it was my first taste of a Formula 1 car, then it was to try different things and complete the program with Toro Rosso," Wittmann added. "The car has quite a lot more power so that was the biggest difference to DTM. So it was just about getting used to the power and torque of the car, but overall I'm pleased."
