Leimer to make London Formula E debut

Manor Formula 1 team reserve Fabio Leimer is a late addition to this weekend's Formula E field for London's season finale, replacing Jaime Alguersuari at Virgin Racing.

The 2013 GP2 champion, whose Manor deal was announced earlier this month, will partner Sam Bird in the London ePrix double-header.

Leimer started the campaign as a reserve driver for Amlin Aguri, and sampled the team's Spark-Renault SRT_01E during pre-season testing at Donington Park.

"As a racing driver, I love a challenge and so joining Virgin Racing for the Visa London ePrix will be a great test," Leimer said. "It's going to be an incredible and unique experience racing on the London street circuit and an even more special occasion racing for a new team in their home race. I'm looking forward to racing alongside Sam and hopefully contributing to a successful season finale for the team."

Alguersuari sits 12th in the standings, having scored a best result of fourth in Argentina in January.

Leimer is one of four drivers making their Formula E debut this weekend. China Racing has enlisted McLaren F1 tester Oliver Turvey to support Nelson Piquet Jr.'s title bid, while IndyCar regular Simona de Silvestro and ex-F1 racer Sakon Yamamoto join Andretti Autosport and Amlin Aguri, respectively.
