GT3 Cup: Green sweep in Toronto practice

Platinum Cup championship leader Chris Green led both Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin practice sessions on the streets of Toronto on Friday, June 12.

Green, from Montreal, turned the quickest overall lap, 1 minute, 13.032 seconds, during the morning practice in the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche. The 11-turn, 1.75-mile circuit at Exhibition Place in Toronto was dry during that session.

Heavy rain fell a few hours before the late afternoon session, but Green still led on a damp track at 1:25.320.

2014 Platinum Cup champion Scott Hargrove, from Surrey, British Columbia, marked his return to the Porsche single-make series with the second-best lap, 1:13.349 in the No. 25 OpenRoad Racing Porsche.

Rookie Harry Steenbakkers, from Ottawa, was third quickest overall at 1:14.196 in the No. 78 Mark Motors Racing Porsche. Daniel Morad, from nearby Thornhill, Ontario, was fourth at 1:14.407 in the No. 22 Alegra/Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsports.

Platinum Masters championship leader Marco Cirone, from Toronto, rounded out the top five overall at 1:14.567 in the No. 88 Mark Motors Racing Porsche.

Shaun McKaigue, from Gilford, Ontario, led Gold Cup competitors with a top lap of 1:16.878 in the No. 34 Fiorano Racing entry. 2011 Gold Cup champion McKaigue is making his first start of the season.

Qualifying is scheduled for 8 a.m. (ET) Saturday. Round 3 of the season will start at 11:40 a.m. Saturday. Round 4 is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Sunday. Both races are 45 minutes.

Green won Rounds 1 and 2 on May 16-17 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and will try to continue his perfect start to the season during the most high-profile event of the season, which takes place during the popular Verizon IndyCar Series weekend.
