Prospective 2017 LMP2 chassis manufacturers update

As the first stage deadline for expressions of interest in being considered as one of the planned four licensed chassis manufacturers for P2 looms (on June 10) there appears to be no shortage of interest from current and aspirant future LMP2 chassis manufacturers to put their hats into the ring.

Of the current active LMP2 manufacturers approached by DSC the current status of their interest in the process (or otherwise) is as follows:

Gibson: Actively considering submitting expression of interest.

Onroak (Ligier): Will submit expression of interest.

ORECA: Will submit expression of interest as a chassis manufacturer.

SMP Racing (BR Engineering): Will submit expression of interest.

Strakka (Dome): Will NOT be submitting expression of interest.

There are believed to be moves afoot to bring forward a potential North American LMP2 project with involvement from Multimatic and Riley. Bill Riley would confirm only that he was considering the way forward.

Among other potential players:

Dallara is believed to be considering submission of an expression of interest.

Ginetta: Will submit expression of interest with an all-new LMP2 coupe design.

HPD is known to be interested in submitting an expression of interest.

Wolf: Will submit expression of interest for its all new Tornado LMP2 Coupe.

That makes up to nine potential bidders (with others possible too).
