ESPN’s SC Featured Looks at Wounded Warrior Race Car Driver Liam Dwyer

The Sunday, May 24, editions of ESPN SportsCenter will include an SC Featured segment on a wounded warrior who was able to return to driving race cars. The segment will debut in the 10 a.m. ET edition of SportsCenter and will re-air in other editions of the program throughout the day.

Staff Sergeant Liam Dwyer doesn't drive at the highest level of the sport, but he has answered the country's highest calling—twice serving in combat as a Marine, twice being wounded. As Tom Rinaldi reports for SC Featured, Dwyer, after being told that he would never be able to drive a manual shift again, used the prognosis as motivation to get back to his passion for racing cars and a successful return to the track.  Dwyer competes in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. He won a race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Ct., in 2014, and won again in Monterey, Calif., earlier this month.

Racing cars for me gives me that adrenaline release that I need, that I crave, that I got when I was in country, either in Iraq, or Afghanistan.” – Liam Dwyer.
