IndyCar: Dixon calls for faster penalty reviews
Scott Dixon has called upon IndyCar to react faster to on-track incidents after Helio Castroneves was issued a post-race penalty four days after the GP of Indianapolis Indianapolis.
Castroneves was docked eight points after a post-race review
by series officials determined that he made avoidable contact when he hit Dixon in the first corner, triggering a multi-car accident.Related Stories
"The downside is that we're talking about it several days later when we should be talking about the biggest race in the world," Dixon said. "I was pretty heated at the time. In my view, the penalty that fits the crime was a drive-through.
"We would have been done with it in the first five minutes of the race. It should have been addressed right away. All the [post-race] penalties come out on the following Wednesday, which gives [the stewards] time to go through the data and video. You could probably come to a conclusion [sooner], but it's just the way they go about it. We all want to have consistent rules and rules we can race under."
Team Penske boss Roger Penske said that Castroneves' penalty was unexpected, and hinted that the team may yet appeal.
"We were surprised that we got a penalty, quite honestly," he said. "We weren't notified of anything during the race that was going to be a review. We've got 48 hours to review it and see what we're going to do."
