Penalty costs Stuvik GP3 debut point
Status Grand Prix driver Sandy Stuvik has lost his point for 10th place in Saturday's GP3 season opener at Barcelona after a penalty for overtaking under the safety car.
The Thai was found guilty of overtaking Jenzer Motorsport's Pal Varhaug after the safety car was deployed mid-race. Stuvik went on to finish 10th, but a 10-second time penalty relegates him to 18th. This means that Alfonso Celis Jr. claims the final point after being promoted to 10th place.
The driver who was found guilty of causing that safety car by colliding with Ralph Boschung – Status Grand Prix driver Seb Morris – has been given a three-place grid penalty for Sunday's sprint race. Stewards found that he missed his braking point and hit Boschung, putting both out of the race.
There was also a five-second time penalty for Arden International driver Aleksander Bosak, who was found guilty of passing Zaid Ashkanani under the safety car. Although Bosak subsequently handed the position back, he was penalized, relegating him to 19th after finishing 18th on the road.
