Senna fastest in Monaco FE practice

Mahindra Racing driver Bruno Senna was fastest overall after the two free practice sessions for today's Formula E race at Monaco.

The 20 drivers spent the first session adjusting to the circuit, which is shorter than the Formula 1 layout. Drivers turn sharp right at the first corner, and then run straight to the harbour front chicane. This is a hairpin on the Formula E layout, and the rest of the circuit is then the same as the final sector of the F1 track.

Jerome D'Ambrosio went fastest early in the 45-minute opening session with a 56.326s. Charles Pic then lowered the marker to 55.536s.

As the track rubbered in the times tumbled and the session was finally topped by the e.dams Renault team. Nicolas Prost, with a time of 54.171s, finished a 10th of a second ahead of Sebastien Buemi.

Sam Bird suffered a technical problem at the end of session one, which shortened his running. He was still seventh fastest, but in the second session he fell to 18th.

The second session was interrupted by two very brief red flag stoppages. The first came after Nick Heidfeld tore up a marker post on the exit of the Swimming Pool, and then Antonio Felix da Costa repeated the feat 10 minutes later.

Jaime Alguersuari set a rapid 53.871s lap but Senna beat it at the end of the session with a time of 53.770s. The top 12 drivers were covered by a second.

Few drivers had incidents. A spin for Daniel Abt at Ste Devote and a lurid slide toward the exit wall of the final corner for Prost, both in session two, was the closest anyone got to hitting the guardrail.
