Juncos expands for IndyCar future

Indy Lights championship-leading team Juncos Racing has announced plans to build a new facility in Indianapolis with the aim of moving into the IndyCar Series in the future.

The Ricardo Juncos-led team, which currently runs six cars across the Road to Indy categories, plans to build a $3million, 41,000 square foot facility called the Juncos Technical Center in Speedway, Ind. An additional 30,000 square feet will be available for expansion so that the team can perform machining, painting and other work in-house.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June, with completion projected for next spring.

"The creation of the Juncos Technical Center marks a historical turning point for the team," said Juncos. "Less than 10 years ago, we were a small karting team in Florida and I continue to be amazed by the amount of growth and success we have seen in such a short period of time.

"The team has grown larger and stronger each year, which created the need for a facility like the JTC. This new facility will allow Juncos to continue to expand into new series."

Juncos drivers have won two Pro Mazda titles, and its current lineup includes Indy Lights points leader Spencer Pigot.

It is the second Lights outfit to have recently declared that it is scaling up for a future IndyCar campaign, with Carlin having also confirmed that there is scope to run an IndyCar program from the base that it shares with sports car team Dyson Racing in in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
