Formula E: Abt Sportsline keeps di Grassi for next season

The Audi-supported Abt Sportsline Formula E team has signed Lucas di Grassi to remain with the squad for the championship's second season in 2015-'16.

Audi sports car racer di Grassi, who won the inaugural Formula E race in Beijing, leads the standings ahead of Long Beach winner Nelson Piquet Jr. by one point heading into the championship's first European race in Monaco this weekend.

"I'm delighted that Lucas will be part of our team in the future," Abt team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt said. "We both knew what we wanted and reached an agreement immediately – the negotiations didn't even take 30 minutes.

"Lucas is one of the top drivers in Formula E and we know that he is a hot property. With this in mind, we wanted to close the issue as fast as possible."

Di Grassi added: "I didn't hesitate for a second when it came to extending the contract. The team and I have ambitious targets in Formula E, and I'm convinced that we will reach them together."
