CRG I Do Borrow Mazda Raceway Post-Race Report

The CRG-I Do Borrow team’s efforts this past weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the third round of the 2015 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series proves that hard work and persistence does pay off.  After strong results in the promoter test and in practice, Sarah Cattaneo would qualify the No. 44 Cruise America RV/Thor Motorcoach Honda Civic Si in fourth place in the Street Tuner (ST) class.

Shortly thereafter an issue with the engine was found and the team took the cautious approach to swap engines before the race, even though that meant started the race at the back of the pack in 27th place.  Sarah would also handle starting duties, and would have a strong run in her stint, passing several cars in the process.  Cattaneo would turn the car over to Owen Trinkler to bring home the pink and black liveried machine, and Owen was up to the task.

Trinkler would battle with the leaders for his entire stint, all the way through the last lap, and was able to take the checker flag in the fourth position, for the teams’ best result of the season, and valuable team and driver points in the championship.  “Really proud of the team this weekend, they really came through and provided Sarah and I a great car.  Sarah did a great job in her stint to not only pass a lot of cars, but to also turn over a car I was able to contend with.”  Trinkler continues, “This strong result is what we’ve been waiting for, a shot in the arm we all needed as the teams’ shown pace all season, we just haven’t been able to put it all together until this weekend.”

The #44 Cruise America RV/Thor Motorcoach CRG-I Do Borrow Honda Civic driver pairing jumped up from 11th in Drivers’ Point standings to a tie for 7th on the season.  The CRG-I Do Borrow team is now in a tie for 6th in the Team Championship points standings.  The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be rebroadcast on Fox Sports 1 on May 17th at 9:00 a.m. EST.
