WEC: Nakajima ruled out of Spa weekend

Toyota driver Kazuki Nakajima will take no further part in this weekend's World Endurance Championship round at Spa following his crash in practice.

The Japanese driver has been ruled out of the event following a collision with the Audi driven by Oliver Jarvis in first free practice because he is undergoing tests in hospital in nearby Verviers after complaining of back pain.

Rob Leupen, team director at the Toyota Motorsport GmbH squad, told AUTOSPORT: "The impact was quite significant and he cannot race because he needs more tests; when we know more we will make a statement."

The TS040 Hybrid that Nakajima was due to share with reigning world champions Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi was more badly damaged than first believed and will have to be rebuilt around a new monocoque.

"The monocoque is badly damaged and we will have to see if it can be repaired," explained Leupen, who confirmed that the #1 car would not run in second free practice today. "We will take the spare monocoque, build it up and be back tomorrow."

The accident happened on a wet track when an LMP2 car pulled out of Nakajima's path at the end of the Kemmel straight and he ran into the back of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, which was on an out lap

Audi hopes that it can repair the R18 Jarvis shares with Lucas di Grassi and Loic Duval in time for it to be given a shakedown in today's second practice session.
