SVRA vintage racing TV special launches May 1
There's something pure and exhilarating about seeing a racing Ferrari in action or witnessing a Shelby GT350 blasting down a straightaway. Auto racing fans love nostalgia and the wide variety of racecar shapes, sounds and spectacle they provide. Vintage racing offers visual and aural delight which is exactly what race fans love. What if you had the opportunity to race your own vintage Corvette, Porsche, Stock Car or Ferrari F2 on legendary tracks? Well, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) creates that opportunity, and Freewheelin' Films has captured these unique events in a 30-minute TV special allowing viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the spirit and atmosphere of some of these exciting racing events (watch a teaser video for the show below). "Pursuit of Passions" will be released nationwide starting May 1. Check your local listings and set your DVR!
SVRA events offer the spectacle of racing cars from decades past, restored to their original racing
specifications, in action on the track. Corvettes, Shelby GT-350s racing against Cobras, Mustangs, Camaros
and Jaguars. Midgets, Mini Coopers, Triumph Spitfires, Alfa Romeo Giuliettas – all of them back on the
track and racing at the same time. The special, "Pursuit of Passions" will air in syndication starting this Friday, May 1.
Veteran racing commentator Paul Page serves as host for the show. A network television and radio sports host and anchor for more than three decades. He joined the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network in 1974, where he became to "Voice of the 500" as well as hosted NBC's "SportsWorld" starting in 1978.
In 1987, Page left NBC to lead ABC's Sports motor racing efforts and earned two Emmys for Best Sports Special, for coverage of the Indianapolis 500. In 2014 the Indianapolis Motor Speedway asked him to return to the role of "Voice of the 500" and for every Verizon IndyCar Series race on IndyCar radio.
