XFinity: Pit fire engulfs crew members

A frightening moment from Friday night's NASCAR

XFinity Series race at Richmond

occurred when Brendan Gaughan's pit stall burst into flames during a stop under caution. Anthony O'Brien, Gaughan's rear tire changer, was in the middle of a left-tire change under the fuel nozzle when the flare-up occurred. Both he and RCR gasman Josh Wittman were later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Clifford "Doc" Turner, the gas runner for the No. 24 Toyota driven by Eric McClure, was also transported to the hospital after coming to the aid of O'Brien, but a team spokesman said he was released late Friday night after treatment for inhalation of extinguisher flames.

Shane Wilson, crew chief for Gaughan's No. 62, told NASCAR.com the incident was caused by a malfunction on the head of the gas can, which prevented the nozzle from sealing correctly.
