RACER Special Projects Studio wrapping up a productive six months

The past six months have seen RACER Special Projects Studio put the wraps on a wide array of work, not all of which has yet been publicly released.

Racer Media & Marketing President and CEO Paul Pfanner said, "Our Special Projects Studio continues to evolve as a second cornerstone of our business alongside our publishing and media work. The breadth of work we've undertaken from branding to advertising to events and custom publishing brings together a diverse set of people and skills but still emphasizes our strong ability to relay a narrative that is core to any brand endeavor."

The most prominent work has been the advertising campaign for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (RIGHT) for the second year running. IMSA tasked RACER Special Projects Studio with bringing to life the "explorer" brand archetype that they developed prior to the start of the 2015 season. The position defines the series as one where fans can go beyond passive spectating to true interaction in a variety of ways at both events as well as at home. Two television spots, plus print and online creative make up the campaign.

In other work, Continental Tire sought to celebrate their deep involvement with both the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. With access to many of North America's leading motorsports photographers, Continental Tire asked RACER Special Projects Studio to create a 2015 calendar (BELOW) that was distributed to Continental Tire retailers across the country and was included as a special gift to RACER readers with the final issue of 2014.

Most recently, to launch the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series, IndyCar commissioned RACER to create a 68-page special issue. The print version was distributed along with the "Heroes Issue" of RACER magazine in addition to 10,000 copies distributed directly by IndyCar. A digital version extended IndyCar's ability to reach up to a million additional impressions through databases that include teams, stakeholders and commercial partners.

Produced within an expedited timeframe of four weeks, the issue finished just a week before the first race to ensure the most up-to-date and complete preview of the season. Included are driver and team bios, features on key players and a comprehensive review and pictorial of the new "aero kits" produced by Chevy and Honda.

For a complete change of pace, RACER Special Projects Studio was selected by Bentley Motors, Inc. to develop and execute the guest experience for the first two rounds of the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge in Austin, Texas and St. Petersburg, Florida as well as the press launch of the 2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed in Austin. RACER Special Projects Studio called upon event marketing agency Nth Degree to collaborate on developing and executing both events.

The combined teams of RACER Special Projects Studio and Nth Degree were responsible for the planning, logistics and management of all three events. The Austin event at Circuit of The Americas hosted 16 journalists and over 80 guests and dealers from the Austin, Dallas and Houston markets. The Mulsanne Speed press launch included a 200-mile media drive as well as evening dinners, while the guest and media event at the track incorporated behind the scenes tours of the Bentley Team Dyson Racing and PWC operations, plus track laps and other VIP elements over four days.

The St. Petersburg event hosted 75 guests and regional dealers over two days where guests received VIP treatment including special parking, circuit transfers and behind the scenes tours.

Other work that has yet to be released publicly includes two brand and identity projects. The first was undertaken on behalf of the SVRA while the other, still currently in development is for the DeltaWing Technologies Group. The result of both projects should roll out later this year. Also in current development is a content marketing initiative on behalf of Continental Tire that in addition to motorsports will also cover their partnership with Major League Soccer.
