EcoBoost-powered 2015 Ford Mustang Official Safety Car of Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach
DEARBORN, Mich., April 16, 2015 – A 2015 Ford Mustang with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will lead the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship field to the green flag as the Official Safety Car of the Tequila Patrón Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach April 18, 2015.
Like its Ford EcoBoost cousin, the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost Riley prototype, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost does more with less. While the twin-turbo 3.5-liter Ford EcoBoost V6 in the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost Riley prototype is winning on the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship circuit, the 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost Mustang won the title of most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class.*
“The 2015 Ford EcoBoost-powered Mustang is a proof point of our commitment to going further. Uniting Ford's latest technology with its iconic muscle car, delivers real Mustang performance with the fuel efficiency customers expect,” said Dave Pericak, director, Global Ford Performance. “Seeing an EcoBoost production vehicle next to the EcoBoost prototype is such a visual demonstration of how Ford is using the race track to help develop production technology that will be used across the board.”
Last year, the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost Riley prototype team drove to victory on the streets of Long Beach, its second win of three in its debut season.
Primary driver Scott Pruett will pursue this third win in a row at the popular road race, after winning the event with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates there in 2006.
