The following is a medical update on Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires driver Michael Johnson of JDC Motorsports, who made contact with the Turn 3 wall in the opening practice session of the Allied Building Products Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Friday, March 27.

Johnson, who is paralyzed from the waist down and uses hand controls to pilot formula cars, suffered fractures to the hip and pelvis in the accident.

Amy Koler, MD, FACS, Trauma Surgeon, stated that Johnson is still in the critical care unit in hospital but is improving daily.

Johnson's father, Tim Johnson, also released the following statement:

"First of all, I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support for our family during this difficult time and appreciate the continued concern. Michael remains in critical condition but is comfortable and stable."

Additional updates will be released when available.
