WEC: Porsche shuffles GTE lineup for Spa

Porsche junior driver Sven Muller will be drafted into the German manufacturer's World Endurance Championship GTE lineup for the Spa round in May.

The 23-year-old, who raced in the Porsche Supercup and Carrera Cup Germany last year after two seasons of Formula 3 in Europe, has been brought into the factory lineup as part of a reshuffle of the drivers across its WEC and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship GT programs.

Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber will be unable to take up their places in the CORE-run TUDOR Championship squad at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca because they will be racing the same weekend in the third Porsche 919 Hybrid at Spa. Patrick Pilet, who is racing for Porsche in both the WEC and IMSA series this year, is likely to contest the Monterey race.

A spokesman for Porsche told AUTOSPORT: "Sven will be with us at Spa, most likely in the 92 car [normally shared by Pilet and Frederic Makowiecki]. Like in the past, we want to integrate our juniors in our factory programs."

The spokesman said that the rest of the lineup for the four Porsche RSR 911s racing on the first weekend of May could not be confirmed at this stage. That suggests that Porsche might have to move one or more of its WEC drivers – Makowiecki, Richard Lietz or Michael Christensen – over to the IMSA program for that weekend.
