IMSA: HPD seeking new team for its LMP2
Honda Performance Development is working to bring the new ARX-04b LMP2 coupe abandoned by the Extreme Speed Motorsport squad back to the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship before the end of 2015.
ESM has no plans to return to the car that it gave a low-key and shortlived debut in the USC opener Daytona in January after announcing that it was reverting to its open-top ARX-03bs prior to the arrival of two new Ligier JSP2s at the Spa World Endurance Championship in early May. hat means that HPD is now looking for another team to race the car in the TUDOR Championship before the end of the season after its homologation is complete in the summer.
HPD race team leader Allen Miller said: "Our goal is to come up with a new package of parts, get the car sorted and then race in the U.S. this year. How we do it is not set, but we have already had communication with a lot of teams and drivers.
"We need to be able to say, 'it's fixed, it's done,' otherwise it is going to be a hard sell for next season."
The ARX-04b in its original specification was, Miller revealed, "off on downforce." He stated that he did not expect that the ARX-04b to race in the WEC this year.
Miller also confirmed HPD's interest in making a bid to become one of the four nominated constructors for the new LMP2 formula due to begin in 2017.
