Formula E alters format for Long Beach
Formula E has altered its on-track schedule for the next round in Long Beach, switching to three shorter practice sessions before qualifying.
The series has traditionally held two practice sessions adding up to 1h15m of track time, but for the Long Beach event it will split that running time over three sessions of 25 minutes. Formula E sporting manager Benoit Dupont explained that the reason for the change was due to the pit and paddock layout, because the series will use the traditional IndyCar pitlane at the famous street circuit for its April 4 event.
"In Long Beach we are using part of the IndyCar circuit along Shoreline Drive, therefore we are using a similar style pitlane with the garages in a remote paddock," he said. "To maximize [battery] charging time and allow teams more time to manage the cars in between sessions, we altered the timetable to include three shorter sessions."
Formula E's timetable was disrupted last time out in Miami, where modifications were required to the circuit before it was ready for action. The delays eventually led to there being only one 30-minute practice session prior to qualifying.
LONG BEACH FORMULA E SCHEDULE
8:15-8:40 - Practice 1
9:25-9:50 - Practice 2
10:35-11:00 - Practice 3
12:00-12:55 - Qualifying
4:00pm - Race (39 laps)
