Strategic Wealth Racing Sebring Pre-Race Report

Sebring, Fla. (18 March 2015) – As Strategic Wealth Racing arrives to Sebring International Raceway this week for Round 2 of the 2015 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship, it will be a familiar place for drivers Matt Dicken and John Lewis. Though it may be the first Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge event for the driving duo at Sebring, both drivers have years of experience at the 3.74-mile former airport road course, including some significant firsts for both.

Dicken’s path in the sport was decided eight years ago, before he was even done with the first day behind the wheel as he participated in his first-ever racing school at the Florida facility with Skip Barber Racing. For his co-driver Lewis, Sebring was the site of his first-ever professional podium finish, earned in the IMSA ranks as Lewis set his career on an upward trajectory.

Strategic Wealth Racing will look to build on that experience and success at Sebring when it arrives for just its second IMSA outing as a team. Prior to entering Strategic Wealth Racing in IMSA competition with the No. 36 Strategic Wealth Designers Porsche Cayman, Dicken and Lewis had teamed together at Sebring as co-drivers in other categories, including scoring a podium together in Stuttgart Cup competition.

“I always enjoy going back to Sebring,” said Dicken. “When I got out of the car after my first on-track session at the Skip Barber school there, I was hooked and I’ve just been looking for more and more opportunities to go racing ever since. I’ve always been interested in cars and when we looked at entering IMSA and were deciding what we wanted to run, the Cayman seemed to be a natural fit.”

Dicken and Lewis combined for a run to 20th place at Daytona in the first time out together as a team, and will look to build on that first weekend at Sebring.

“Daytona was our first time out in this race series and I think it’ll take a few races for the team to really gel together, but we were really pleased with how Daytona went,” said Dicken. “We showed we had the race pace and despite contact which sent me to the back of the pack early on, we were still able to push forward and take the checkered flag in the end. We learned a lot in that first race and are looking forward to applying what we learned to the Sebring event.”

Dicken showed well in that Daytona performance, recovering from the unfortunate contact early in the race to drive all the way up to seventh place ahead of the team’s first pit stop. Strategic Wealth Racing, which is crewed by Georgia-based Goldcrest Motorsports,  looks to continue to improve throughout its rookie IMSA campaign and all are hopeful of a strong run at Sebring.

“We had some pretty specific goals for Daytona, most of which were focused on just working through the weekend, staying out of trouble, and learning about this car on the Continental Tires as well as learning about the guys we are racing against,” said Lewis. “This is a talented (Strategic Wealth Racing) group and we should get better and better. I’ve got a lot of experience at Sebring, and it is one of the toughest tracks we race on but we are all very much looking forward to continuing to make progress all week long.”
