NASCAR issues post-Vegas penalties

NASCAR has penalized two crew chiefs for technical infractions that were detected in post-race inspections at Las Vegas last weekend.

Justin Allgaier's crew chief Steve Addington was fined $25,000 after the #51 HScott Motorsports car was determined to have breached several rules relating to ballast and "actions detrimental to stock car racing." According to a NASCAR bulletin, ballast was observed falling off Allgaier's car during the race, and the car subsequently failed to meet minimum post-race weight requirements.

Among the specific rules that were deemed to have been broken were those dictating where ballast may be placed, and how it is to be secured.

Meanwhile, Brad Keselowski's crew chief Paul Wolfe has been placed on probation until Dec. 31 after NASCAR officials discovered that the right and left-rear quarter panels on the #2 Team Penske entry had been modified after qualifying inspection.

Series regulations state that OEM-manufactured body components cannot be modified unless there is a need for them to be stiffened, or to attach other components.

Keselowski was seventh across the line in Sunday's race, while Allgaier finished 31st.
