F1: Caterham asset auction set for next week
If you ever thought of buying a (somewhat) state-of-the-art Formula 1 car or elements of an F1 race team, here's a rare chance: Remaining assets of the bankrupt Caterham team will be auctioned off by UK auctioner Wyles Hardy & Co., with online bidding set for Wednesday and Thursday, March 11-12.
Among the assets for sale is a complete 2010 show car (chassis No. T127-04) shown at left, video walkaround below, originally driven By Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen but reliveried as a 2014 car. Sorry, there's no engine – a steel tube dummy frame is bolted to the Xtrac aluminum gearbox housing – but you will get the high-tech steering wheel. Bidding for this car starts at 22,500 pounds sterling [$34,000] – a bargain, if it stays anywhere near that level.
Other assets available include a variety of garage and pit lane equipment, including a 6-position pit wall timing stand (TOP) by QUENTOR with 18 LCD color monitors, associated computers within data, power & comms cabling management and signaling Ccether with side screens and tables.
