SCCA: Dalton takes over as manager of Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup
SCCA Pro Racing has selected Keith Dalton to take the reins of the SCCA Pro Racing Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich Tires, backfilling the role of series manager vacated by Jim Brown.
Dalton comes to SCCA Pro Racing after two stints at the Skip Barber Race School spanning 26 years, having most recently served as the organization's Director, Competition. In that capacity, Dalton was responsible for the oversight of each race series held by Skip Barber.Since the 2012 racing season, the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge has run as a separate class during each Mazda MX-5 Cup event. Aside from working closely with many of the Mazda MX-5 Cup staff, Dalton coordinated with Brown to make sure each class had safe and successful events."This new adventure creates an opportunity for advancement in the sport and series that I love," Dalton said. "I look forward to teaming with past associates and moving forward with new ones."Brown will remain part of the SCCA Pro Racing, but will serve in an advisory role for the Mazda MX-5 Cup. He has worked for SCCA Pro Racing since 2002, having managed the Pro Spec Racer Ford, MAZDASPEED Miata Cup and Mazda MX-5 Cup series in that time. Brown said he chose to step down at this time to give the new manager a year to learn the ropes before the scheduled 2016 release of the new MX-5 race car."On behalf of SCCA Pro Racing we thank Jim Brown for his outstanding service," SCCA Pro Racing President Robert Clarke said. "While we will miss Jim's experience and expertise, the series has been left in good hands. The importance of good, strong leadership of the series is of the utmost as move toward a global Mazda MX-5 Cup, of which SCCA Pro Racing will no doubt be part."The SCCA Pro Racing Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich Tires will open the 2015 season with a double-header event, starting March 20 as part of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida.
