IMSA: PR1 set for full PC campaign; working on expansion

California’s PR1 Motorsports will be back for a full season of PC racing in 2015 and is close to revealing its driver lineup, according to team owner Bobby Oergel.
“We’ll have a good package for next season,” he told RACER. “We can’t really announce anything yet, but we should have it set by the end of the week. The full season package is set as of the moment. We’re holding the cards close to the chest on our endurance drivers, but there are some great options to choose from.”PR1 won the 2013 ALMS PC Driver’s title with Mike Guasch, and successfully transitioned its No. 52 ORECA FLM09 into the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship with Gunnar Jeanette and Frankie Montecalvo as their full-time pilots. With PR1’s PC program continuing on, Oergel says he continues to work on an expansion into the Prototype category—a subject we spoke on earlier in the year.“It’s not been a secret that we would love to try and do something else, and that looks like it’s going to take a backseat for the moment; it’s going to take more time to get there,” he said. With Daytona Prototypes set to fall silent after the 2016 season, a move into Prototype with a P2 coupe would make the most sense for PR1. IMSA’s commitment to the PC chassis also has an expiration date, which will force many teams to look at moving up in the next few years.Although there’s no specific timeline on adding a P2 program to the team’s PC effort, Oergel sees the benefit of offering his clients multiple prototype options in the future.“We’ll keep working on things until we get there; I'd rather be a small fish in a big pond if that's what it ends up being, and for now, we’re ready to have a great season in PC and to go for another championship," he said. "That’s our number one priority.”
