Flaherty in Euro Rallycross comeback

Former European Rallycross Championship driver Mark Flaherty will return to the series after a 20-year absence in 2015.

Flaherty raced at three events in the British Rallycross Championship at the end of 2014, and finished third at the Rallycross Grand Prix, driving an LD Motorsports Citroen DS3. He will contest both the European and British championships next season, plus the Lydden round of the World series.

"I've caught the rallycross bug again," said Flaherty, who left rallycross at the end of the Group B era, where he had raced an MG Metro 6R4. "I went and watched the British round of World Championship this year and decided I had to get back involved.

"I want to win the British Championship for sure. In Europe that will be a much bigger step to climb. If I could finish third in the championship, that would be a massive result."

Flaherty made his initial motorsport comeback in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in 2012, scoring best finishes of fourth at Silverstone and Rockingham. He is currently in talks with several teams to finalise the car he will use in 2015.

"Once we have done some testing over the winter when we have made a decision which team we will run with, I will be flat out," he said. "At the moment I'm still talking to several teams about running the program for next year, but things are coming together."
