Sims gets British GT title run

Alexander Sims will contest the British GT Championship again next season, alongside 2014 champion Marco Attard.

BMW factory driver Sims partnered Attard in Barwell Motorsport's Ecurie Ecosse-badged BMW Z4 GT3 this season, helping Attard clinch the title in the final round. Sims, the 2008 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner, ended up third in the British GT points after missing the two races at Snetterton while on Nurburgring 24 Hours duty with the Marc VDS squad.

The 2015 calendar does not clash with the rest of his BMW program, and Sims is optimistic of fighting for his first title in car racing.

"That's certainly the plan," said Sims, who missed out on the 2008 Formula Renault UK title on dropped scores. "There's no reason we can considering how well we did this year.

"We had very little experience working together and I really hope we can fight for the championship again and do it even stronger as well. At the start of the year it was a bit of a disappointment to know that I wouldn't be challenging for the title. It's nice to be able to do that this time."

Sims will again contest the Nordschleife-based VLN series and its 24-hour showpiece next season, and also hopes to return to the Blancpain Endurance Series' blue-riband event, the Spa 24 Hours.

"We learned a lot in the VLN races this year and it's a real shame we had a mechanical mishap in the race," he added. "We had to retire after three and a half hours, I think I did three laps!

"It was pretty disappointing but it was an awesome experience. The plan is to try and win in 2015."
