Stohl to race for Solberg's RX team
Former World Rally Championship driver Manfred Stohl will partner World Rallycross champion Petter Solberg next week at the final round of the series in Argentina. Solberg has tasked his rally colleague with scoring a podium finish for the PSRX team in his first World RX event.
"Manfred wants to try rallycross so it's great to have him," said Solberg. "We had quite a few drivers that wanted to drive in Argentina, but I think he wants to see how rallycross is.
"It will a good learning race for him. It will be very interesting to see how he goes, I told him I want top three, so he has some pressure."
Solberg has had several teammates in the squad, though six-time WRC podium finisher Stohl is the most experienced.
"It doesn't matter which of us does better, but rallycross is very different to rallying so we will see how he gets on," continued Solberg. "I want him to perform but for sure I also want to win too. I think he can be quick."
Stohl prepared for the Argentinean event by racing at a national Austrian event last week, in a OlsbergsMSE build Ford Fiesta.
"The cars were already on their way to Argentina when it was confirmed that I would be joining Petter in the PSRX team so unfortunately there hasn't been any time to test," said Stohl, "but I'm really looking forward to the race and want to get as much experience of RX as possible."
