Comtec withdraws from FR3.5 finale

Comtec Racing has withdrawn from the Formula Renault 3.5 finale at Jerez this weekend due to unforeseen circumstances regarding its driver Cameron Twynham.

The British team received late notice that Twynham would be unable to travel to Spain for the race, leaving it without a driver for the second time this year. Comtec also had to skip the Spa and Moscow rounds earlier in the season when Nikolay Martsenko withdrew from the series.

While the team ran a second car for Formula 3 European champion Esteban Ocon alongside Twynham at the last couple of rounds, that deal was never scheduled to include the finale due to a clash with the F3 round at Hockenheim.

Comtec team manager Phil Blow said: "This new problem is exceptionally frustrating for us all. Similarly to the setback we had earlier this season approaching the Spa weekend with Nikolay, we are pretty powerless to react to get a driver into the car, such is the lateness and unexpected nature of the news."

The team confirmed that it will take part in next week's post-season test at Jerez, as it switches its attention to preparing for the 2015 season.

Twynham joined Comtec at the Nurburgring round in July, taking a best finish of 11th in his second start.
