Eriksson to make ELMS debut
GP3 frontrunner Jimmy Eriksson will make his prototype debut with Sebastien Loeb Racing in the European Le Mans Series finale. The Swede, who lies fourth in the GP3 points with Koiranen GP, will drive Loeb's LMP2 class ORECA-Nissan 03R in the Estoril four-hour event on Sunday.
Eriksson will share the car with team regular Vincent Capillaire, who raced alongside Arthur Pic and Andrea Roda at the previous ELMS round at Paul Ricard last month.
"We want to bring new faces and new young talents to endurance [racing] – that's what we've already done not only with Arthur Pic and Andrea Roda at Paul Ricard but also with Rene Rast at the Le Mans 24 Hours," noted Loeb sporting director Franck Tine said. "Jimmy's participation fits perfectly in the line with that commitment."
Eriksson, 23, explained that Formula 1 remained his goal but that he did not want to close any doors to different career avenues.
"Endurance is a direction I'd be interested to follow in the future," he said.
