IMSA: Dodge SRT Viper squad explains lineup changes for Petit Le Mans

The SRT Dodge Viper squad has split its GT Le Mans points-leading lineup ahead of this weekend's Petit Le Mans TUDOR United SportsCar Championship finale at Road Atlanta.

SRT Motorsports has placed Kuno Wittmer, who leads the GTLM points together with regular team-mate Jonathan Bomarito, in the #91 Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R with Marc Goossens and enduro-only driver Ryan Hunter-Raey for the Petit Le Mans 1000-mile enduro on Saturday. Dominik Farnbacher, Goossens' usual driving partner, moves over to the #93 car to share with Bomarito and endurance driver Rob Bell.

SRT racing manager Gary Johnson said: "What we've decided to do is switch the drivers in the Vipers to maximize our championship opportunities.

"If the #93 car ended up being taken out by another team, this would allow the #91 driver – in this case, Kuno – to win the championship or, vice versa, should the #91 have an issue."

Wittmer and Bomarito lead the GTLM title race by seven points from Corvette Racing driver Antonio Garcia. Goossens and Farnbacher are third, 10 points back and would have had a clear chance of winning the championship before the reshuffle.
