MotoGP: Rossi taken to hospital after crash

Valentino Rossi has been taken to Alcaniz hospital for a precautionary CT scan after his violent crash in the Aragon MotoGP race.

The incident happened on lap four of the grand prix, when Rossi closed rapidly on Dani Pedrosa under braking, and had to take to the curbs at Turn 8 to avoid the Honda. Rossi then lost control of his Yamaha and had a high-side across the asphalt run-off area, coming to rest just before the tire wall.

He was taken away from the scene on a stretcher, but was able to get to his feet and walk into the medical center unaided. After initial checks at the circuit, he was declared OK by MotoGP medical officials but taken to hospital for the precautionary scan.

Rossi's Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo went on to win the race after both Marc Marquez and Pedrosa crashed their Hondas while trying to stay out on slicks in a late rain shower.
