Another sprint car tragedy claims racer Scott Semmelmann
Beaver Dam Raceway provided this image of Scott Semmelmann, center, on its Facebook page. Semmelmann was killed Saturday night in a crash at the track.
The sprint car racing community has been hit by tragedy once again. Scott Semmelmann, 47, died of undisclosed injuries in a solo crash during practice for an IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series event at Beaver Dam Raceway, a 0.33-mile dirt oval located some 65 miles northwest of Milwaukee, Wis.
"Beaver Dam Raceway experienced a tragedy Saturday night during the hot laps session for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series, a Midwest touring series," the track said in a statement. "Beaver Dam Raceway General Manager Carolyn Mueller and Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series President Steve Sinclair decided to cancel the rest of the race program out of respect for the family and friends.
"Fans, drivers and crew members were offered an opportunity for a refund, but had the option to donate the money to the family, which most did," the statement added.
