GT: Richelmi joins WRT Audi in Blancpain
GP2 race winner Stephane Richelmi will contest the rest of the Blancpain GT season with the WRT Audi team.
The deal, which begins with the Blancpain Endurance Series finale at the Nurburgring this weekend, marks Richelmi's first taste of top-level sports car racing. The 24-year-old joins Jean-Luc Blanchemain and Christian Kelders in WRT's #4 car, and will stay on for the two remaining Blancpain Sprint rounds as well.
"I have not a huge experience with GT cars," said Richelmi, whose only previous sportscar start came in a French GT event in 2009, "but I am determined to learn and grow quickly. GT racing is for me a new challenge and a very interesting possible option for the future."
Richelmi has been in GP2 since moving across from Formula Renault 3.5 during the 2011 season. He claimed his first win at home in Monaco this year, and is team-mate to championship leader Jolyon Palmer at DAMS.
