Denver, CO - Andy Lee, driver of the No. 20 Crown Seven/BestIT/ Chevrolet Camaro was awarded the prestigious Jim Cook Award - an annual award honoring the memory of James Edwin Cook (1939–1985) - at last Saturday's Pirelli World Challenge Awards Banquet held in Salt Lake City. The award is presented at season’s end to the driver who has made significant contributions to the overall success of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships through promotional activities and a consistent display of good character and sportsmanship.
"I was bestowed with the Jim Cook award and I wanted to find out who Jim was and how the award came to be since I may be the first recipient who never personally knew Jim," said Lee. "What I found out is that Jim was a beloved and skilled racer. He was viewed as a great friend and mentor to many legendary drivers. Past Jim Cook award recipients include some heavy hitters and having my name associated with that group of drivers is very humbling. I'm very honored and proud to be the 2014 Jim Cook Award recipient. Thank you everyone!"
Lee, an instructor at the world-renowned Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving since 2005, started his driving career when he moved from his hometown in Colorado Springs, to the Phoenix area to begin working at the school. Lee won his first national karting win at the Florida Tour in 2008, and progressed to win his first World Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park in 2012. That same year Lee earned Rookie of the Year honors in GTS finishing second in the class Drivers' Championship with four wins, five podiums, and three poles. In 2014, Lee finished 10th overall in the GTS Drivers' Championship.
Lee's career includes driving in 2009 in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Series, and then in the VW Scirocco Cup Car event in England. Lee also competed in the Baja 1000 in 2010.
