GT: Injured Mahy moved to UK hospital
British amateur driver Marcus Mahy is returning home to the UK more than a month after sustaining life-threatening injuries during the Spa 24 Hours in July.
The 53-year-old, who left intensive care at CHU Hospital in Liege more than two weeks ago, is being transfered by air ambulance to a hospital in Salisbury, UK today to continue his recovery. The location has been chosen because Salisbury has a reciprocal agreement with the only major hospital where he lives in Gurnsey, which does not have the required facilities for his rehabilitation.
Mahy, who has also raced in the VLN long-distance championship on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife, is expected to make a full recovery.
He was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken vertebra in an accident shortly before the six-hour mark of the Spa round of the Blancpain Endurance Series on July 26-27, in which he was driving a Ferrari 458 Italia entered by the Kessel Racing team.
